Located adjacent to the Cradock Fire Department in Afton Square, the memorial recognizes two members of the Cradock Volunteer Fire Department who died during World War II. They were Harold W. Treakle and William R. Gearhart.
Harold Willard Treakle enlisted on February 16, 1943 and died in combat on February 1, 1945. Born in 1922, he graduated Cradock High School in 1940, served as a volunteer firefighter in Cradock and later, served as an Infantry Seargent in the U.S. Army.
Private First Class William R Gearhart died in combat at the age of 19, on February 28, 1945. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
