Norfolk County Feed and Seed

Join a local, family-owned business for a walk through Christmas! Bring your best happy face - no grinches allowed!

This labor of love has been in the works since August. The former Davis TV building has been converted into A Walk through Christmas. Simply stated, it's just a fun walk that may bring back a memory or two of a Christmas past....you may even see the Jolly Old Man in his office checking who's naughty and nice!

Nothing in the building is for sale, but you are more than welcome to look, imagine and smile all you want.

Access is through the main entrance of the feed store, but there is no charge or purchase required to join them in this fun time. Canned food donations are being accepted for Mercy Drops Dream Center to provide for those who may be in need.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard MuseumPortsmouth, VA Map

Visit the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum in Portsmouth, Virginia, to “meet” historical veterans through their photographs, uniforms, and mementos on exhibit. These objects will transport you to past eras while you experience the service and sacrifices these young people made for Portsmouth and the United States.

In the gallery’s temporary case, view artifacts never before displayed to meet three World War II veterans from Cradock High School. Shipfitter Second Class Vernie Eligia Musgrove dropped out of school to become a welder and joined the Navy in 1942. Staff Sergeant William Carl Sawyer, Jr., and Private First Class Ivan H. Vredenburg were both drafted in 1943. None of these three young men returned from their service, making the ultimate sacrifice during the war. Learn more about them in this touching display that is only here for November and December.

The gallery’s permanent exhibits include additional servicemen and women from Portsmouth’s past. Their roles varied, but their dedication and service was unquestionable. From World War II, “meet” Captain Herbert Dumstrey, Fifth District Navy Chaplain and Technician Third Grade Evelyn Foster, the first local member of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). For those in combat roles, Sergeant Thomas Joel Winborne served stateside as a B-25 radio operator, while Private Charles Lawrence Crowder, Jr. fought in the Pacific with the 81st Infantry Division.

In the gallery’s Civil War section, view rare uniforms of several veterans who fought for both North and South. Commander William Wallace Hunter was a U.S. Navy officer who defected to the Confederacy in 1861. Captain Cary F. Grimes was the local militia leader killed at Antietam in 1862. Confederate Private John Cocke Ashton was a hat salesman who participated in the siege of Petersburg in 1864. Union Private Zachary Taylor Chappell volunteered at age 16 and was captured and imprisoned by the Confederacy in 1864. He died of malnutrition after his parole at age 17.

At the Museum gallery’s craft table, you can make a paper Remembrance Poppy as a memento. The wearing of a red flower to symbolize the service and sacrifice of those in the military began in England after the First World War and was quickly adopted by the American Legion.

Admission is free but donations are welcome.

About the film:

As he sits in the park, he suddenly sees an old friend whom he hasn't seen since they quarrelled when they were yeshiva students together. Adult Tickets $25 each.

The Black Market Trust is an American pop/vocal jazz band that combines the sounds of the great American crooners and vocal groups with the romantic Eastern European gypsy fire of jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. These five world-class musicians have traveled the globe recording and performing with music’s most renowned artists. Their all-instrumental debut studio album, The Black Market Trust, is widely regarded as a milestone in the gypsy jazz world with lead guitarist, Jeffrey Scott Radaich, gaining notoriety for his technical prowess and musicality. They established themselves as leaders and innovators by combining pop “Brill Building” sensibilities with the traditional sound of Django Reinhardt’s Hot Club of France Quintet. Their music has been featured in ABC TV’s comedy series, Happy Endings, and the animated video featuring their song, Referential Integrity, has garnered over one-million YouTube views. Bassist Brian Netzley and Radaich, formerly with the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, stayed true to their love of Django, combining it with a new sound and sensibility of the great pop/rock bands they grew up listening to and recruiting LA-based session/touring drummer Brandon Laws and Tucson, AZ’s violin hero/Eastern European folk music expert Nick Coventry. The lineup includes wunderkind Kale Stiles on rhythm guitar, clarinet and saxophone, and even lap steel. Vocals merge their love of everything from The Mills Brothers to The Beach Boys, from Sinatra to Lennon/McCartney.

Chicago

Chicago

TICKETS ON SALE THIS FRIDAY AT 10AM!

Hailed as one of the "most important bands in music since the dawn of the rock and roll era," the legendary rock and roll band with horns, Chicago, came in as the highest charting American band in Billboard Magazine's Top 125 Artists Of All Time. And Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six consecutive decades.

Chicago recently received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the GRAMMYS. The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording. A special award ceremony and tribute concert celebrating the honorees was held in 2020.

Chicago was inducted into the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This was their first nomination. They’ve been eligible since 1994. A long time coming!

Chicago's first album, Chicago Transit Authority, was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in 2014. Chicago managed to fuse pop, rock and jazz together perfectly in this double album.

Robert Lamm and James Pankow have become inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017. These legendary songwriters wrote mega-hits such as, "25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday In The Park," "Feelin' Stronger Every Day," "Make Me Smile," and many others.

The International Trombone Association presented its 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to James Pankow. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes people who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to the trombone profession over a long career.

Chicago became the first non-classical group to perform six nights in a row at Carnegie Hall 50 years ago. Between April 5 and 10, 1971, the band played eight shows at the celebrated venue (including two matinees) and recorded every one of them. In October of that year, performance highlights were featured on the band’s first-ever live album, Chicago at Carnegie Hall. That quadruple-LP reached #3 on the Billboard 200, was certified platinum, and is still the band’s best-selling live album.

To honor the 50th anniversary of Chicago’s historic concerts, the band recently released all eight Carnegie Hall shows in their entirety for the first time in a new 16-CD deluxe boxed set. CHICAGO AT CARNEGIE HALL COMPLETE available through www.rhino.com.

Chicago founding member and trumpeter Lee Loughnane and engineer Tim Jessup spent nearly a year meticulously going through more than 40 concert tapes at Loughnane’s new studio in Arizona to remaster each concert. Their hard work paid off with eight fantastic-sounding shows.

CHICAGO AT CARNEGIE HALL COMPLETE is presented in a white folio that’s embossed with the group’s trademark logo. The set beautifully commemorates the event through memorabilia that includes replicas of the three posters that accompanied the original vinyl release and images of the original concert program, tickets, and other memorabilia from the historic run. The collection also comes with a 28-page booklet illustrated with photos from the concerts, plus new liner notes with contributions by Loughnane; archivist Jeff Magid, writer/producer David Wild and comedy icon/Chicago fanatic Jimmy Pardo.

Chicago’s lifetime achievements include two Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, Founding Artists of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and keys to and proclamations from an impressive list of US cities. Record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 37 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.

Chicago have toured every year since the beginning - they’ve never missed a year. The original three band members are Robert Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet and vocals and James Pankow on trombone. The band line-up also includes Wally Reyes, Jr. on drums, Keith Howland on guitar and vocals, Lou Pardini on keyboards and vocals, Ray Herrmann on sax and flute, Neil Donell on vocals, Brett Simons on bass and Ramon "Ray" Yslas on percussion.

From the signature sound of the Chicago horns, their iconic Vocalists, and a few dozen of ever-Classic Songs, this band’s concerts are celebrations. 2022 will mark the band’s 55th consecutive year of touring!

Chicago continue to be true ambassadors for their beloved hometown, carrying the city's name with pride and dignity around the world.

They include retired Master Sgt. Caleb Green, retired Staff Sgt. Ron Henry, Sgt. Maj. Christal Rheams, and retired Sgt. 1st Class Jason Hanna. The group uses their platform to increase awareness of what music can do for service men and women who are coping with post-traumatic stress and other invisible/visible wounds. Their journey and purpose reached a new dimension when they placed fifth in 2019 in Season 14 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, followed by a return appearance in January 2020 on AGT: The Champions. They represent the excellence that exists within our military and veteran communities and are an inspiring example for the nation that they continue to serve through music.
