TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Formed in Chicago, IL in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993's 4x multi-platinum Siamese Dream and 1995's 10x multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. With over 30 million albums sold to date, the two-time GRAMMY®, MTV VMA, and American Music Award winning band remains one of the most influential alternative rock bands in the world.

Their monumental Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour took place in 2018, which sold over 300,000 tickets across North America and saw them playing sold-out arena shows at venues including The Forum, United Center and Madison Square Garden. The tour was the band’s first in nearly two decades to feature Corgan, Chamberlin and Iha, alongside Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates and keyboardist Katie Cole. Critics were quick to praise the tour as “a massive gift to their fans” (Uproxx), “a welcome reminder of why those early albums resonated in the first place” (SPIN), and “an unforgettably rewarding and often spectacular odyssey” (Forbes).

Hanging Tree Guitars is a traveling exhibition that showcases the work of Freeman Vines, a luthier, musician and material artist.

Mr. Vines was born in Greene County, North Carolina, where his family sharecropped on plantations where they were once enslaved. For 50 years, he’s been building guitars from cast-off materials gathered from across the county – everything from an old tobacco barn, to radio parts, to the wood of a tree where a 1930 lynching took place.

The exhibit was organized by the Music Maker Relief Foundation, which strives to preserve the legacy of musicians who are the creative roots of American Music.

Exhibit Hours:
Wednesday – Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sundays: Noon – 4 p.m

70s Soul Jam featuring The Stylistics, The Legendary Blue Notes,Heatwaveand hosted by Jimmy “JJ” Walker, will be closing out the 2022 Portsmouth UMOJA Festival at the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion in Portsmouth on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 7 PM.

Formed in 1966, The Stylistics became a leading Philly soul group on one of the most successful soul groups of the70s. The Stylistics began their legendary journey after members of the Monarchs and the Percussions joined forces and recorded “You’re a Big Girl Now, co-written by Marty Bryan and Robert Douglas. What followed has been a legendary career that included 12 straight top-ten hit ballads such as “You Are Everything,” “Betcha by Golly Wow,” “I’m Stone in Love With You,” “Break Up to Make Up,” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”

Formed in Detroit in 1967, Enchantment obtained their first recording contract after winning first place in a talent contest hosted by local Detroit radio station WCHB in 1969. The group went on to release six albums between 1976 – 1983 and record hits including “Gloria,” “Sunshine,” and “It’s You That I Need.”

The Legendary Blue Notes is one of the most popular Philly soul groups of the 1970s. The group’s repertoire includes soul, R&B, doo-wop, and disco. With a decade worth of memorable hits including “The Love I lost,” “Wake Up Everybody,” and the #1 smash “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” The Legendary Blue Notes stand in rarified air.

Heatwave emerged as one of the disco era’s funkiest groups. Formed in 1975, Heatwave forever etched their place in annals of American music with their singles “Boogie Nights,” “The Groove Line,” and “Always and Forever.”

The evening of smooth 70s soul, funk, disco, and R&B will be hosted by Jimmy “JJ” Walker. Best known for his “Dyn-O-Mite!” role asJames Evans Jr. on the CBS television series Good Times from 1974-1979, Walker continues to tour the country as a stand-up comedian.

70s Soul Jam comes at the close of the 2022 Portsmouth UMOJA Festival, a grand celebration of African American culture and heritage promoting cultural diversity and unity. The Weekend will open on May 27 with a special performance by the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan. Tickets for both performances can be purchased at the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion (Mon. & Fri. 10am-4pm) or online at ticketmaster.com.

The Humble Quest Tour, with support from Brett Cobb, will be stopping at the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion in Portsmouth on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 8pm.

Maren’s new album Humble Quest is out March 25 on Sony Music Nashville’s Columbia Nashville imprint—pre-add/pre-save it here. Thus far, Maren has shared two singles from Humble Quest—“Circles Around This Town,” which broke Amazon Music’s record for most streams for a country song debut by a female artist and was praised by Rolling Stone for its “ambling groove that’s unhurried and bolstered by a grunge-lite guitar riff” and “Background Music,” which Billboard called a “lovely, dusky ballad” that “highlights the best of her R&B/country blend.”

The Black Crowes Present: Shake Your Money Maker

Jun 22, 8:00pm

Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion16 Crawford CirPortsmouth, VA23704 Map

TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

In 1990, when journalists were lamenting the death of rock, as cheesy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, Atlanta’s Black Crowes gave the genre a swift and much needed kick in the ass with Shake Your Money Maker. Fueled by singles “Jealous Again,” “Twice As Hard,” “She Talks To Angels,” and the break-through cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle,” the band immediately took the rock world by storm, topping Rolling Stone’s “Best New American Band Readers Poll” in late 1990. The Black Crowes went on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way; they sold out shows around the world; had legendary guitarist Jimmy Page join as a member; got kicked off a tour with ZZ Top for insulting the sponsor; got screwed by bad record deals; got married and divorced, fought amongst themselves and against the rest of the world. In other words, they’ve done everything a legendary rock group should do.

with The Pretty Reckless
and special guests The Warning and Lilith Czar
TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Halestorm, founded by siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale in their teens, has grown into a chart-topping trailblazer in today’s rock music landscape. The band surpassed a billion streams cumulatively and has sold out shows around the globe, with the San Jose Mercury News declaring them “the best hard rock band in the world” after their November 2021 show. On May 6, the band will release their fifth full-length studio album, Back From The Dead. The title track, called “a biting but cathartic howler” by Rolling Stone, marked the band’s sixth #1 at rock radio, and the second single, “The Steeple,” is about to enter the top 10.

Halestorm has grown from a childhood dream of siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale into one of the most celebrated rock bands of the last two decades, with their music surpassing a billion streams worldwide. They'll release their fifth studio album, Back From The Dead, on May 6, and the title track marked their sixth #1 at rock radio. Rolling Stone called Vicious, the band’s last album, a “muscular, adventurous, and especially relevant rock record." It earned the band their second Grammy nomination, for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Uncomfortable” and led Loudwire to name Halestorm “Rock Artist of the Decade” in 2019. Fronted by the incomparable Lzzy Hale with drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bass player Josh Smith, Halestorm has earned a reputation as a powerful live music force, headlining sold-out shows and topping festival bills around the world, and sharing the stage with icons including Heaven & Hell, Alice Cooper, and Joan Jett.

The Warning infuses rock music with a much-needed shot of adrenaline. The Monterrey, Mexico trio of sisters—Daniela “Dany” (guitar, lead vocals), Paulina “Pau” (drums, vocals, piano), and Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal (bass, piano, backing vocals)—charge forward with head-spinning riffs, unpredictable rhythms, stadium-size beats, and skyscraping vocals. Through a series of independent releases, The Warning garnered the respect of countless fans and musicians from across the globe before signing with LAVA/Republic Records to release their latest MAYDAY EP (2021). The band’s single “CHOKE” surged them to the forefront of hard rock and they amassed over 1.5 million social media followers and 85 million YouTube views. In 2021, the band was given the distinct honor to be featured on Metallica’s Blacklist album, covering “Enter Sandman” with multi-platinum pop superstar Alessia Cara. In January of 2022, Disturbed frontman, David Draiman publicly praised the band on his personal Twitter page stating that The Warning “gives him hope for the genre’s future,” and further described the hard-rock trio as, “Young powerful women playing real instruments and writing songs the entire rock genre can be proud of.” The three-piece powerhouse have already played alongside rock music legends such as The Killers, Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, Tesla, Def Leppard, and Foo Fighters, and will be heading out on their 2022 MAYDAY North American headline tour—kicking off in San Diego on April 18, hitting New York’s Gramercy Theatre on May 6, and two nights at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on May 23 and May 24. Their new single “MONEY” is set for release on March 25, 2022—a song that aims to spotlight the societal and humanitarian burdens directly caused by corruption, power, profit, and greed.

There are few artists whose names are synonymous with one instrument and how it's played in service to an entire genre.

Utter the phrase "young blues rock guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has sold millions of albums while throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens.

In a 20-year recording career that began when he was just 16, Shepherd has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist, a consistently in-demand live act and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of interest in the blues.

The title of Buddy Guy’s latest album says it all: The Blues Is Alive and Well. The legendary blues artist’s eighteenth solo LP and follow-up to 2015’s Born to Play Guitar showcases his raw and unadulterated sound, its fifteen tracks a true pleasure for aficionados and genre newcomers alike. “I got children and grandchildren who didn’t know who I was, but nowadays we can play outdoor concerts and see kids that are eight, nine, twelve years old coming to me and saying, ‘I didn’t know who you was, but I read what Eric Clapton said about you,'” Guy explains when discussing his mindset around the new record. “I’m always trying to make an album that someone accidentally plays where some kid hears it, picks up a guitar, and helps keep the blues alive.”

Since the release of Kingfish, his Grammy-nominated 2019 Alligator Records debut, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Christone “Kingfish” Ingram has quickly become the defining blues voice of his generation. From his hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi to stages around the world, the now 22-year-old has already headlined two national tours and performed with friends including Vampire Weekend, Jason Isbell and Buddy Guy (with whom he appeared on Austin City Limits). He was interviewed by Sir Elton John on his Apple Music podcast, Rocket Hour, and recently released a duet with Bootsy Collins. In January 2021, Ingram was simultaneously on the covers of both Guitar World and DownBeat magazines, and graced the cover of Living Blues in late 2020. Rolling Stone declared, “Kingfish is one of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince.”

Eleven-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson is “one of the greatest country singers of our time,” according to the Washington Post. He is one of only a few people in the history of country music to win two Song of the Year Awards from both the CMA and ACMs.

His 2008 album, That Lonesome Song, was certified platinum for 1 million in sales, and his 2010 ambitious double album, The Guitar Song, received a gold certification.

In addition, he won two Song of the Year Trophies, for “Give It Away” and “In Color,” both from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. He has received tremendous praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal and other publications, many of which have hailed his albums as masterpieces.

In 2012, the Alabama native released his fifth studio album, a tribute project to late songwriter Hank Cochran. The Grammy-nominated Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran paired him with Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Ray Price, Elvis Costello, George Strait, Vince Gill and Merle Haggard.

In 2013, the Nashville Scene’s 13th annual Country Music Critics’ Poll named it the year’s best album. (Two years earlier, the same poll named Johnson’s The Guitar Song as the year's best album, and Johnson himself as best male vocalist, best songwriter and artist of the year.)

Born and raised in Georgia, Megan Moroney is one of Nashville’s most exciting up and coming artists. Megan grew up in a musical household heavily influenced by legendary songwriters in classic country, southern rock, and americana. During Megan’s freshman year at the University of Georgia, an opportunity to open for an established country artist at the iconic Georgia Theatre prompted Megan to write her very first original song. From there, she developed a love for storytelling and has become known for her distinctive voice and honest, conversational lyrics. Be on the lookout for her Debut EP “Pistol Made of Roses” coming July 2022!
