Start at the Portsmouth Welcome Center
The Portsmouth Welcome Center located at 206 High Street, across from the Children’s Museum of Virginia, offers visitors an abundance of informational brochures on area attractions and a gift shop to purchase Portsmouth souvenirs.
As a state certified Visitor Center, you can find information about most destinations across the Commonwealth.
Open Sunday- Thursday from 9 am – 4 pm, and Friday-Saturday 9 am- 5pm.

Renaissance Navigators
If you’re staying at the Renaissance Portsmouth-Norfolk Waterfront Hotel, be sure to ask one of the in-house concierges, known as Navigators, for assistance with things to do and how to get around. They are trained destination specialists and happy to help you plan your visit.
Visiting by Boat
In addition to the commercial marinas located throughout the city, Portsmouth has a complimentary public docking area located at High Street. It is designed primarily for day visitors who want to moor, have some lunch or dinner, shop, and return home. However, overnight docking is allowed. If you plan on staying overnight, you must complete and submit the online mooring application. For rules and regulations regarding overnight docking, please call 757-393-8782 for a recorded message.
