Norfolk, VA –Young Audiences Arts for Learning Virginia (YAV) celebrates another year of family-fun and partnership with the Children’s Museum of Virginia. Celebrate the Arts! is an interactive day filled with performances by YAV artists, arts activities for all ages, and the museum’s special interactive exhibit featuring Once Upon a Time: Exploring the World of Fairy Tales!, a collaborative project presented by St. Louis Public Library and The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum & Library Services.
YAV Artists will perform programs throughout the day, including magician Harold Wood’s “Circus in a Suitcase,” Atumpan’s “Balla Fasseke and the Griots of Mali,” and Jennifer Gammill’s “Elephant’s Gerald” program about the life and music of Hampton Roads legend Ella Fitzgerald. Hands-on workshops will be held all day as well, including Mannaah Blackwell’s comic strip workshop, Stephanie Lask’s poetry workshop, and the “Little Hands, Open Minds, and Big Hearts” workshop where Kim Herman and Jerilynn Ruger teach the basics of drawing and assemblage art.
Celebrate the Arts! will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10am to 4pm. Educators and PTA Board Members will be admitted with one guest for free, and PTA Members will receive discounted museum admission (proper identification required). To learn more, visit www.yav.org.
