Portsmouth, VA: The Virginia Watercolor Society announces that their 42nd Annual Watercolor Exhibition is returning to Portsmouth, VA for the first time in 20 years! This show, with over 80 paintings, opens in the historic Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center June 12, 2021 and runs through September 12, 2021. Nearly 100 volunteers, representing every part of our state are working on this project. Currently, there are over 120 donors and sponsors supporting this exhibit and they welcome more! This exhibition is also a competition that includes over $15,000 in cash and prizes.
Founded in 1979, the Virginia Watercolor Society is the oldest statewide organization of artists in Virginia and has fostered interest and participation in the art of watercolor through publications, demonstrations, workshops, and exhibits. This annual exhibition featured at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center will offer a range of subjects and styles that showcase the beauty, experimentation, innovation and creativity in contemporary watercolor.
The Juror for this exhibition is Linda Baker, an internationally renowned artist and instructor residing in South Carolina. As a full time artist, she creates originals, giclee prints and has two instructional videos, along with jurying and teaching workshops both nationally and internationally.
VWS is an all-volunteer, 501c(3) tax exempt organization of artists and art supporters. It’s objectives are to create opportunities for beginning as well as established artists to advance their skills and professionalism, and to be educational for the public at large. Its charitable Creasy/Johnson Fund aims at educating and encouraging deserving artists, particularly students and beginning painters, and underwriting various educational projects of the VWS.
