This walk tells the history and describes the architecture of Olde Towne homes, with a smattering of bawdy songs and colonial culture thrown in for your amusement!
Heroes and History Walk
Did you know the first African American spy, James Armistead Lafayette operated in Portsmouth?  Or William “Billy” Flora, hero of the Battle of Great Bridge, was a well-respected Portsmouth citizen and business owner? Or that Portsmouth was a stop on the Underground Railroad? Hear these stories and many more as you walk the streets where it all happened, led by characters in the guise of American heroes of African descent and others who championed their cause.
It Happened Here Walk
The age-appropriate History Happened Here Walk, is available for schools and other children’s groups. This walk focuses on how Portsmouth history is intertwined with the Virginia and U.S. history children learn in the classroom. Walks may be combined with a trip to the Children’s Museum of Virginia followed by a picnic in one of Olde Towne’s beautiful parks.
