Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market Going Strong in 2020

June 10, 2020
Produce available at the Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market

The Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market continues to operate in 2020, but with a couple of differences.  Firstly,  it’s in a new, temporary location.  Secondly, the market implemented CDC safety recommendations designed to keep everyone virus free.   What hasn’t changed are the quality produce, meats, seafood, and locally made items offered for sale.  The Farmers Market is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday.

What to expect at the Market in 2020?

Olde Towne Portsmouth Frmers Market is now located in the parking lot at St. John's Episcopal ChurchTemporary Location

As a result of the virus, the Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market operates in a temporary location.  Saturday morning shoppers now find the market at St. John’s Episcopal Church, on the corner of Washington and London.  Ample parking is available along Washington Street and Green Street.  Volunteers from the Sheriff’s department are on hand for traffic control.  Once the City re-opens facilities, the market will return to Court and High Streets.

Safety Practiced by both customer and vendor at Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers MarketSafety Measures

As called for by the CDC, all customers and vendors must wear masks and social distancing is enforced. Gloves are provided and required for any “low touch” shopping. Some vendors are providing pre-orders for pick up or grab boxes.  The new location provides improved spacing to allow everyone to social distance while shopping.

Vendors at Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market

Brother's Produce Stand at the Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers MarketWhile the vendors at the market change week-to-week, there are a few that are there each week, like Brother’s Produce, Red Barn Berkshires, and Russel’s Seafood.  You might also find local honey, fresh roasted peanuts, bakery item, breads, teas, coffees, and possibly even a beer from a local brewery.  Right now, Mama D’s is on hand selling one of a kind re-usable masks!  For a full list of vendors, visit the Portsmouth Olde Towne Farmers Market website.  An active Market Facebook page also has updates about new vendors and specials offered each week. For safety reasons, the number of vendors is limited each week.
