Grand Opening:
The grand opening of the new Rivers Casino Portsmouth was at 10 a.m. Monday, January 23. Dignataires from Rush Street Gaming and the City of Portsmouth were on hand to cut the ribbon and open the doors allowing guests to enjoy slot machines, table games, restaurants, and a 25,000-square-foot event center. The casino features 1,448 slot machines, 57 table games, a 24-table poker room, a sports betting lounge, and seven bars, cafes, and restaurants. The Virginia Lottery Board granted an operator’s license to the Rivers Casino in Portsmouth after a unanimous vote in November 2022, and State officials have been onsite to certify the arrival and installation of the gaming equipment. There have been nearly 1,300 employees hired and trained by the casino for the big opening day.
