Free New Year’s Eve Events

1. Olde Towne Scottish Walk

This annual event has been going on for 25+ years, and is modeled after Scotland’s Hogmanay Festival, where the walk is a day when townspeople honor their community and merchants, wishing good luck and prosperity in the coming year. Enjoy a stroll thought historic Olde Towne, listen to bagpipes and Scottish music, and chat with good folks. After the Walk,  there will be a few proclamation’s and then before the crowd joins together to sing “Auld Lang Syne” written by the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788. There will also be a flag ceremony that honors George Washington’s raising of the first flag (the Grand Union) on 1 January 1776. After, there is an unofficial pub crawl, with lots of live performances.

2. Noon New Year’s Eve for the Kids

Celebrate the New Year with a noon glittery ball drop and juice toast at the Children’s Museum of Virginia. Face-painting, magic, and balloon-making will take place prior to the countdown, along with a photo-booth and refreshments. Visitors can also enjoy wagon rides. Families can enjoy these New Year’s festivities – all before bedtime!

3. Nooners Eve Party at MoMac Brewing

Enjoy a rocking’ celebration as you close out 2023 and welcome in a new one! Dance, laugh, and have a blast at MoMac Brewing Company’s Nooner’s Eve event. It’s the perfect way to celebrate with family and friends. So, mark your calendars for Sun, Dec 31, 2023.  The brewery is open from 10:00 AM-5 :00 PM, and the festivities will be bright and early, featuring live music from The Sam Floyd band starting at 11:30, activities for the kids, food trucks, and a special toast at noon.  Stop by for a beer, stay for the fun.   We will have a special mimosa selection for you as well!

4. New Year’s Eve at the Twisted Pig

The folks at the Twisted Pig Ale & Smokehouse will be ringing in the new year right with neighborhood friends and people who enjoy good BBQ.  It’s an intimate, low key way to ring in the New Year.  Live music provided by Travis Morrison, and other new years shenanigans from 9-midnight.

5. New Year’s Eve Party Featuring Salt at Baron’s Pub

Celebrate NYE with your friends at Baron’s Pub. Local favorite band Salt will perform. Dress in White and dress to impress. Music starts at 8. Food available all evening. At midnight, there will be a balloon drop and complimentary champagne toast.

6. Toast the New Years at Rivers Casino Portsmouth

Toast to the new year in style with local favorite dance band Better By Tuesday live at The Sound Bar, a DJ at BetRivers Sportsbook. They’ll also have “Goodbye 2023” drawings with a grand prize of $2,024 Free Slot Play, a champagne toast at midnight and more! 7. 2024 New Years Ever Party at the Famous Venue

Ready for a unique, up-scale experience this new year’s eve? Then get your tickets for a black-tie evening at the Famous Venue. Live music by The Band Vontrelle (Portsmouth Jazz Experience) and a high energy DJ when the band’s on break. Dancing, hors d’ oeuvres, champagne at midnight, and the best entertainment around makes this a New year’s Eve event to remember.  Formal black-tie or high end-evening attire required.  The doors open at 8pm sharp with drinks available until 1 AM.  A light meal is served after midnight.  Tickets are $100 per person.  Buy during early bird times and get 2 for $150.

8. New Year’s Eve Masquerade

Join the folks at Roger Brown’s Restaurant and Sports Bar this New Years Eve for a thrilling New Years Eve Masquerade Ball! Get ready to dance the night away and ring in the New Year with style. This in-person event will be held at 316 High Street, in Olde Towne, Portsmouth. Doors open from 8pm until 1:30 at. Make sure you dress to impress and bring your friends along for a night filled with music, laughter, and celebration.
